You Don’t Have to Earn Your Worth

This month is Black History Month in the UK, and my affirmation for today says:
“I do not have to earn my worth.”
That line hit me differently during one of my night shifts.
I started thinking about Leah in the Bible — the woman who had six sons with Jacob. If you look at the meanings of those boys’ names, you’ll feel Leah’s p
ain through each one. Each time she gave birth, it was like she was saying, “Oh, now my husband will love me.” “Oh, maybe now he’ll honour me.” “Oh, maybe now he’ll stay.”
But Jacob didn’t. He wasn’t moved.
Leah kept trying to earn her husband’s love — with her effort, her children, her pain. But it didn’t make her more worthy. She was already enough.
And here’s the bit that shook me — when Rachel (who Jacob loved deeply) was barren, Jacob didn’t rush to “provide for his household.” But the moment Rachel gave birth to Joseph, suddenly Jacob said,
“It’s time to go home. I need to build my own household.”
It wasn’t until Rachel gave him a child that he felt complete enough to act. And when he feared Esau’s wrath, Jacob lined up his family in order of importance — the servants and their children first, then Leah and hers, and finally Rachel and Joseph, closest to him.
Leah had six sons — six! — and still didn’t matter to him the way Rachel did.
That’s when I realised:
As women, we don’t need to earn our worth.
We don’t need to prove ourselves to be loved.
We don’t need to perform, produce, or please to be valuable.
You are worthy because you exist. Full stop.
So, to every woman reading this: You don’t have to earn your worth from any man, any job, any title, or any role you play. You deserve love, rest, and joy — simply because you are you.
A Little Gift for You
