Today, My Dad Would Have Been 83 š
A candle
He passed 4 years ago, and I still haven't gotten over it. He was my world.
My sister and I used to argue over who would carry his bag, take his shoes, or bring him water when he came home from work. A serious argument! Meanwhile, when Mum came home, we'd complain we hadn't eaten since morning... š
My Dad would hold a grudge with Mum for days if she punished us. He wouldn't eat just to show his displeasure. Thank you, Mum, for not minding him ā how could we have thrived without your discipline?
My dad would complain if I did not call him within two weeks. But when I mentioned this to my siblings, one of them said Dad called him every single day at a certain time ā and our sisters-in-law too. I am not even sure who missed him most. He was such a gentle giant.
After he passed, people started coming to us with stories we never knew. Neighbours told us he would quietly give them money whenever they came to the house. The money we were sending to him ā he was busy giving it away to others. Is it okay ooh. š
I miss his voice, his laughter, his jokes, and him pulling my nose.
His favourite prayer when I called home: "Adura e a gba" ā "The Lord will answer your prayers." And "Wa a raanu gba" ā "You shall find mercy."
Rest well, Dad. šš¾
