Affirmations for Black Women Who Carry Too Much.

Women often carry not only visible but also emotional burdens and are sometimes unappreciated.
Women often carry not only visible but also emotional burdens and are sometimes unappreciated.

You carry the groceries, the grief, the generational wounds, sometimes some, if not most, of the bills. You carry the schedules, the softness, the strength. And sometimes, you forget that you were never meant to carry it all alone.

“I used to think that being strong meant never asking for help. But strength, I’ve learned, is also in the surrender.”

For Black women, the weight is often invisible to others but deeply felt. We carry expectations, assumptions, and the emotional labour of entire families, workplaces, and communities. And sometimes, patterns repeat themselves.

And yet, we smile. We show up. We create. We nurture.

But what if we paused? What if we spoke to ourselves with the same tenderness we offer others?

I created Ruthy Michaels because I needed a space where Black women felt seen—not just as caregivers or warriors, but as whole, healing beings. I remember journaling one night, feeling overwhelmed with a tight chest and feeling relieved afterwards. That moment birthed my first affirmation:

“I am allowed to rest. I am worthy of softness.”

It changed everything.

Affirmations aren’t magic spells. They’re gentle reminders. They help us rewrite the stories we’ve been told—and the ones we’ve told ourselves.

Here are a few to carry in your heart (not on your back):

🖤 Affirmations for Women Who Carry Too Much

  • I release what was never mine to hold.

  • I am not the fixer of all things. I am the nurturer of my own soul.

  • My rest is revolutionary.

  • I am allowed to be held, not just to hold.

  • I honour my ancestors by healing, not just surviving.
